Michelle Wieser 101
A truly motivational leader, Michelle Wieser began her career in the corporate world, later to turn to higher education in order to help empower and motivate young professionals. “Before taking a turn in my career path, my professional experience was primarily in sales, marketing, and consulting. Since leaving corporate for higher education, my career has been focused within business schools, primarily focused on teaching and preparing MBA students for their future careers.”
Here’s a snapshot of the impressive organizations that Michelle worked for prior to joining the St. Kate’s community:
- General Mills
- Nestle Purina
- EY Consulting
- Washington University in St. Louis
- University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Business
“At the time I came to St. Kate’s, I had accumulated significant experience in MBA program leadership, primarily in career services. I had just finished my Ph.D. coursework and was starting to focus on expanding my leadership to include a broader set of responsibilities when I saw the posting for my current role. I could not pass up the chance to apply my experience to a new MBA program at a highly reputable, mission-driven university. It has been a fantastic experience so far!”
Michelle has been incremental in building the MBA program to where it is today, undeniably due to her passion for getting to know each of the students’ professional aspirations. In addition to her responsibilities as MBA director, Michelle also teaches Marketing Management and Personal and Team Leadership courses.
Who is she, really?
We asked MBA Director, Michelle Wieser, a series of questions to figure out who she is as a “real human being” outside of the classroom. Here’s what she had to say:
What is something – outside of education – that you are extremely passionate about?
My family. I’m blessed to have an amazing husband, John, and energetic and adorable 5-year-old daughter, Charlotte. I’m also very close to my extended family, all of whom live in St. Louis, MO. I adore all of them!
Are you a dog or cat person? Dog (although I don’t have one!). Cats make me SNEEZE!
What’s your favorite thing to do in the Twin Cities?
Lately, it’s going out on our brand new boat on Lake Minnetonka! It’s such a gem within a major metro area like the Twin Cities.
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Passionate, committed, smart (hopefully!)
What’s the most important thing you hope your MBA students walk away with after graduation?
The confidence to realize that they can achieve whatever they desire in their careers and lives.
